A pagoda on
a hill looks down on this capital of the Mon State from
a steep hill set close to the pretty town, which is set
in a narrow curve along the sea. It is the second
largest port in the country.
Mawlamyine When the British first invaded Myanmar, their
eareliest conquest in 1824 included the coastal town of
Mawlamyine. The colonial legacy remains in the elegant
building along Strand Road.
