Introducing Kyaikhtiyo
Kyaikhtiyo is quite unlike anything found anywhere
else in the world. Said to be 2500 years old, the huge gold-leafed
boulder balances mysteriously on the summit of Mount Kyaikhtiyo.
Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda Like other sacred Buddhist sites in
Myanmar the Golden Rock is said to store a hair of the
Lord Buddha placed precisely in the stupa to safeguard
the boulder’s precarious position on the cliffs edge.
Sunrise and dusk are
the best times to
view the rock when the subdued sunlight reflects off the gold-leaf in rich purples and reds to
amazing effect.
Visitors will relish the trip up to Kyaikhtiyo, a wild trek through
rainforest that makes the sight at the top all the more worthwhile. |
